Our school is designed to support young people with Specific Learning Difficulties with small class sizes, a staff-to-student ratio of 2-5, classrooms equipped with specialist resources including learner-specific software, and we ensure that we remain at the leading edge of specialist teaching by regularly reviewing and evolving our practice. We also make sure that we are engaging with national centres of excellence and involving ourselves in the national conversation about specialist teaching and learning so that we have the most up-to-date pedagogy and technology to share with our pupils alongside bespoke programmes of study such as Learning to Learn and Skills Academy.
At Burlington House School, Tooting we believe that every child should feel known, supported, and valued, and we are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive culture that is as rich in ‘kindfulness’ as it is in mindfulness, and where our pastoral care enables every pupil to grow in character and confidence as much as they grow in knowledge and skills.
1. The best and easiest way to get started is to speak to Christina, our Registrar, who can answer all of your questions about Burlington House School.
2. If you would like to apply for a place for your child, we’ll need copies of any relevant professional paperwork. This may include:
Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP)
Educational Psychology (EP) report from the last two years
School Report
We’ll review these documents and, if we feel that Burlington House School is the right fit, we’ll arrange for you to meet our relevant Head of School and Registrar for a school tour.
3. Next, we will invite your child to join a class and work alongside their peers. We call these ‘Acquaint Days’ and it helps us to assess their performance and potential, and what support they might need from us.
We will also spend some time with your child in a 1:1 setting to gently assess their speech, language, numeracy and literacy.
4. At this point, we’ll have everything we need to decide whether Burlington House School can meet your child’s needs. If so, we will send you an offer for a place, which you can decline or accept as an independent payer or via your Local Authority.
5. Email admissions@burlingtonhouseschool.com to progress your application.
Attending an Open Day is the required first step before a formal application is usually considered.
