Throughout the year, we open our doors to welcome prospective families through two distinct experiences: our specialised Early Years Open Mornings in March and December, and our comprehensive Whole School Open Mornings in May and September.
During these interactive sessions, your children will become part of our learning adventure, participating in engaging activities that showcase our approach to education. As they explore, you’ll tour our exceptional facilities and most importantly, meet the heart of our school, our passionate pupils and dedicated staff who make Chandlings such a special place.
We understand that scheduled Open Mornings may not suit every family’s journey. That’s why we’re delighted to arrange personal tours during term time, offering you an intimate look at our school in action. These hour-long tours, beginning at either 9:30am or 1:30pm Monday to Friday, and conclude with refreshments with our Head.
At Chandlings Prep School, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD) are overseen by a dedicated Head of Learning Support (SENDCo) who leads a team of four specialist teachers. Operating under a tiered “waves of intervention” model, the school actively supports roughly 20% of its mainstream student base with mild-to-moderate learning differences, including specific learning difficulties (such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia), speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
Early Years entry involves an informal taster session. Admissions become academically selective from Year 1 onward, requiring a formal registration, a taster day with localised academic assessments, and a report from the child’s current school.
Operates a rolling admissions process subject to place availability. Families looking for standard Autumn term entry typically complete visits and registrations during the preceding Autumn/Spring terms.
Awarded the highest rating of “Excellent” in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). Highly praised for its balance of strong academic outcomes and extensive outdoor education. 20% to 30% of pupils regularly win awards and scholarships to senior schools.
Leavers primarily transition into top selective independent day schools in Oxford and Abingdon. Popular destinations include Magdalen College School, Abingdon School, Headington School, Oxford High School, and The School of St Helen & St Katharine.
