The Learning Support Department
Holistic Oversight: The department manages SEND, EAL (English as an Additional Language), and AG&T (Able, Gifted, and Talented). It provides specialist teaching in English, Mathematics, and study skills.
- Tier 1 (Universal): High-quality differentiated teaching within the mainstream classroom.
- Tier 2 (Targeted): Short-term, small-group interventions for specific learning barriers.
- Tier 3 (Specialist): Intensive support involving external professionals such as Educational Psychologists or Speech and Language Therapists.
Admissions & Assessments
- Early Disclosure: Parents must disclose any SEND or diagnoses (e.g., Dyslexia, ADHD) during registration. Recent Educational Psychologist or medical reports must be provided.
- Assessment Adjustments: Exam concessions—such as 25% extra time, a scribe, or a laptop—are available if evidence shows this is the student’s way of working.
- Placement Guarantee: As a Duke’s Education school, KS offers a “guaranteed entry” pathway to other Duke’s senior schools, often providing early acceptance by Year 5 to reduce 11+ transition stress for students with additional needs.

Entry Requirements
Senior School (Year 7 & Year 9)
These are the main entry points for the Senior section. The process becomes more formal to ensure students can handle the GCSE curriculum.
- Registration: Must be completed with a £240 fee.
- Assessments: Candidates sit an in-person assessment in English and Mathematics. The school also looks at “non-academic” qualities like music, art, or leadership.
- The Interview: An informal but essential interview with the Head or a senior staff member. They are looking for pupils who are articulate, curious, and willing to “have a go.”
- ISEB Pre-Tests: While KS prepares its own students for the ISEB Pre-test for external schools, external applicants to KS usually follow the school’s bespoke assessment path.
International Applicants
KS is a licensed student sponsor and welcomes international families.
- Online Interviews: For families abroad, initial meetings with the Head and Principal can be conducted via video call.
- Right to Reside: The school will require a copy of the child’s passport and evidence of their right to study in the UK (Visa/BRP) before enrollment.
