Entry Requirements

1. Nursery & Reception (2+ and 4+)
Entry at these levels is non-selective. There are no entrance exams or play-day assessments.

The Process: Places are offered strictly based on the date of registration.

The Strategy: To secure a “definite place,” you should register your child as early as possible—often immediately after birth.

Definite Places: The school allocates a set number of definite places for each birth month. Once these are filled, any further registrations for that month go onto a waiting list.

2. 7+ Entry (Year 3)
Because the school is “all-through” to Year 6, 7+ entry only happens if there are occasional vacancies.

The Assessment: If a spot is available, candidates must sit a formal assessment:

Written Papers: English (Reading, Comprehension, and Writing), Mathematics, and Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal).

Taster Morning: A morning spent in a Year 2 classroom to observe the child’s social interaction and “teachability.”

3. Occasional Vacancies (Years 1, 2, 4, and 5)
Entry into other years is rare and depends entirely on a current student leaving.

Key Dates for Admissions

1. Nursery & Reception (2+ and 4+)
Chepstow House operates a first-come, first-served registration policy.

  • Registration Deadline: Immediately after birth. The school allocates definite places based on the month your child was born. Once the quota for that specific month is filled, subsequent applicants are placed on a waiting list.
  • Offer Window: For those with definite places, formal offer letters are typically sent out approximately two years before entry (around late 2025 for 2027 entry).
  • Acceptance Deadline: Usually two weeks after receiving the offer letter. You must pay the deposit and an advance term’s fees (collected one term prior to starting) to secure the spot.

2. 7+ Entry (Year 3 Occasional Vacancy)
Entry at Year 3 is selective and depends on current students leaving.

  • Application Deadline: Usually mid-November 2026 for a September 2027 start.
  • Assessment Date: Typically held in January 2027. This involves written exams in English, Maths, and Reasoning.
  • Taster Mornings: Successful candidates from the exams are invited for a classroom taster session in late January or February 2027.
  • Offer Date: Results are generally released in February 2027.

3. Important Events for Parents
Prospective Parent Evening: June 11, 2026 (5:30 pm – 7:00 pm). This is a key date to visit the school and meet the Headmistress, Mrs. Barr.

Weekly Tours: Personalised tours take place on Fridays at 10:00 am. These must be booked in advance via the Admissions Registrar
