Well-structured learning support department tracking approximately 25% of the student body for mild-to-moderate learning differences (such as dyslexia, processing speed gaps, and organisational/attentional focus needs). Support is delivered via classroom scaffolding, structured profiling, and specific 1:1 booster intervention.
Selective. Admission to the Pre-Prep involves a gentle “stay and play” session. Entry to the Prep school (Years 3–7) requires passing formal age-appropriate entrance assessments (English, Maths, and reasoning), a personal interview with the Headmaster, and a strong reference from the candidate’s current school head. Note: Choristers and Quiristers must also pass a specialised, rigorous musical voice audition.
Main entry intake points are at Reception (4+), Year 3 (7+), and Year 4 (8+). While applications are processed on a rolling model where space allows, formal assessment days are heavily scheduled during the preceding autumn and spring terms. Chorister auditions are tightly coordinated alongside the Cathedral and College musical diaries. Early registration is crucial.
Globally renowned as one of the UK’s premier, elite choir schools, heavily celebrated for balancing unparalleled musical training with immense academic stamina and superb pastoral care.
Unsurprisingly, the school represents the premier, historic pipeline to Winchester College at 13+ (Year 8), with a large portion of the leavers’ cohort successfully moving up there each year. Other prominent leaver destinations include other world-famous independent boarding institutions, such as Eton College, Radley College, Harrow School, Charterhouse, and Marlborough College, with boys consistently capturing highly competitive academic and music scholarships.
